Academic Activities

To improve and maintain the quality of education in ODL system we regularly organize orientation programmes and meeting with our coordinators and counselors and other related personalities in the field of education. We also seek feedback from our learners and its various stake holders. Regional Centre has held a conference to disseminate the information regarding the various programmes offered by IGNOU. The officials also went to the remote areas of Kashmir that includes Karnah, Kangan in Ganderbal district etc. Orientation programme was organized at SC-1211 (Govt. Degree College, Boys, Anantnag) where students from the district Kulgam, Pulwama, Shopian, Tral were invited to participate. Similarly one more orientation programme was organized at SC-1210 (Govt. Degree College, Sopore) where the students from the areas like Kupwara, Baramulla, Bandipora etc participated and shown very much interest in joining the IGNOU. Free leaflets were distributed among the participants. New programmes launched by IGNOU were introduced which includes Masters in Gender Development, Gandhi and Peace Studies, Anthropology, Panchayati Raj and Information security. Conference was organized at CRPF premises in Bandipora by the Regional Centre where above 300 participants were present which includes CRPF Jawans, their families, Higher official and the local residents. In case of enrollment 61.1% are already employed, 46.02% are female and 55.65% are in the age group of 26 to 30 years. 31.8% of the Students are from far flung and remote areas.

Recently we have signed the MoU with Kashmir University for the broadcast of Educational programmes through GyanVani FM Channel in regional language. The channel not only benefits the students of IGNOU but will also benefit all the students’ community of the Kashmir Valley.

Learners Profile

Our learners has been employed in almost every department of J&K Govt. which includes Education, Banking, secretariat services and State administrative services which shows the success of our Regional center in the field of education. We have recently started facility of On Demand Exam for the benefit of our learners from valley. Every year we are successfully conducting Term End Examination twice in a year with the cooperation of our study centers at Govt. degree colleges with strict monitoring. To improve and maintain the quality of education in ODL system Regional centre Srinagar is continuously striving hard for the information dissemination and providing the quality support services to all its learners under able guidance, directions and leadership of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor.

Learner Support Activities

From four Learner Support Centers in 1999, we have at present 41 Learner Support Centers spreading to the entire Division of Kashmir valley. Almost every district of Kashmir Division including Leh & Kargil has presence of IGNOU learner support centers. One of the special study centers has been established for Jail inmates at the Central Jail, Srinagar, housing the largest number of prisoners in the State. We have our centers at Kashmir University, National Institute of Technology, Sheri Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Govt. Medical College, Srinagar and all the Government Degree Colleges of the Kashmir Division. To reach other unreached areas, we look forward to open centre in Nubra valley of Leh and Zanskar in Kargil and Gurez in Kashmir. Regional Centre is committed and working hard to provide Study Material to all its registered learners in time for which we are also distributing study material through their respective LSC and ensuring its timely distribution in spite of adverse climatic conditions and other disturbances.
